Celebrate Humphry Repton’s Bicentennial Year with Woburn Abbey

Woburn 2018 Groups brochure update

Our new exhibition explores the fascinating relationship between Repton and one of his greatest clients, The Duke if Bedford. On public display for the first time will be his most elaborate and comprehensive ‘Red Book’, his famous presentation document of proposed designs. His Red Book for Woburn was commissioned in 1804 and illustrates his innovative plans for the Pleasure Grounds and Park, many of which were subsequently realised by the 6th Duke of Bedford.

In addition, the exhibition will also showcase Repton’s other works for the family including at the picturesque Devon estate of Endsleigh, Oakley House and Russell Square in London. Never before seen unexecuted designs will feature alongside works of art and archive treasures, which bring to life the creative legacy of Repton.

There are a number of linked activities available to groups including tractor tour, Repton garden guided tour and House guided tours.

Our annual Garden Show will be held 23rd and 24th June 2018. Garden show only visits will be charged the Garden Show group rate entry (adults £9.25, concessions £8.25. Regular entry, non-group rates are £14 adults and £13 concessions). However, groups visiting the House and gardens during the show will benefit from the regular group rate entry of £15 adults and £13.50 concessions, adding value to your Abbey and Gardens joint visit during this weekend.

Known as “The Gardener’s Garden Show”, the Woburn Abbey Garden Show offers a great range of specialist plant nurseries, selected garden trade stands and a lively talk’s theatre headlined by BBC Gardeners’ Question Time panellist Pippa Greenwood and BBC TV presenter and garden designer Adam Frost.

We are also working with Stephen Bennett, the former Shows Director at the Royal Horticultural Society for 28 years, where he was responsible for the Chelsea Flower Show, the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show and all the other RHS shows during his tenure. Stephen has been working with us to revamp and relaunch the show at our stunning and historic venue with acres of fabulous gardens.

The Abbey will be open from the 23rd March until the 28th October 2018 inclusive. From the 2nd November 2018 the Gardens and Duchess’ Tea Room will remain open Friday to Sunday weekly.

Group discounts apply to groups of 12 or more and visits can be tailored to suit group requirements. We offer guided tours of the Abbey and/or Gardens, a joint visit with Woburn Safari Park or Bletchley Park, out of hour’s experiences and free flow visits.

Please do get in touch if you would like to discuss group visits to Woburn or require any additional information, I would love to tailor your requirements with you.

I truly hope to have the opportunity to welcome you to Woburn soon.

With kind regards
