Cranborne Garden Manor
By kind permission of Viscount Cranborne
The garden was originally established in the 17th century by John Tradescant and was enlarged in the 20th Century. It features several gardens – blue and white, cottage
style, water and wild. There is also a Jacobean Mount and Jacobean gatehouses.
The Chalk Walk with its double ‘hot’ herbaceous borders should be at its best at the time of our visit. There are fine specimen trees and avenues to explore. We will be free to tour the garden by ourselves.
By kind permission of Neil Lucas
Knoll is well-known for its fabulous grasses and and Neil Lucas, the owner, will give us a personal tour round. Enjoy the meadow-style drifts merging almost seamlessly from sunny perennial meadows to prairie style plantings amidst a mini-
arboretum of rare and unusual trees. There will be an abundance of practical planting ideas including wildlife friendly gardening. There is a specialist nursery on site. Neil is the UK’s leading ornamental grass specialist and with 10 consecutive Chelsea Gold Medals to his name, the quality of grasses and perennials grown here is second to none.
The excellent Cranborne Garden Centre Cafe serves morning coffee and hot and cold light lunches. It is possible to picnic in the grass car park area and there is also bar food available at the Inn at Cranborne. You may also like to visit the Garden Centre itself which specialises in old-fashioned roses, and a wide variety of perennials, herbs and shrubs.
At Knoll there is a refreshment cabin for teas/coffees and washroom facilities.
