In addition to protecting historic gardens and landscapes, one of HGT’s key missions is to help improve the quality of green spaces around us for the wider well-being of all, and to ensure that there is more accessible green space in urban environments and, especially, within new developments.
With its fast-growing population, Winchester has become increasingly built up and has lost too many of its green spaces. With this in mind, we have become actively interested in a new project which would indeed help to provide these vital green urban spaces.
Please click here to read a recently published Hampshire Chronicle entitled ‘article ‘The chance to create a new garden for Winchester’ which relates to Highfield Lodge and the Cattle Market, the site of which is part of the proposed Station Redevelopment scheme. We feel that perhaps now is a perfect opportunity to encourage a smaller scale redevelopment of Station Approach and raise our concerns about green spaces.
