Summer/Autumn Garden Visits 2021
Tuesday 27th July
The Manor House, Stratford Tony, SP5 4AT
Afternoon self drive
Our first garden visit is to The Manor House at Stratford Tony which is only open to Groups by appointment. This idyllic 4-acre garden, set in a beautiful downland setting, has much to offer including formal and informal areas, lakeside planting, parterre garden (pictured below) and much more besides. This is an afternoon visit and our host Lucinda Cookson will give us an introduction to the garden and together with her Gardener will be available to answer any queries during our self-guided tour.
Thursday 5th August
Malverleys, East End, Newbury, RG20 0AA
Morning self drive
The second garden visit is to an exceptionally beautiful and well known but private garden called Malverleys, near to Highclere. This garden regularly appears in many Gardening Journals and the Head Gardener Matt Reese is renowned as an innovative plantsman. This is a morning visit, and we will have a private guided tour of the gardens followed by refreshments.
Tuesday 7th September
Houghton Lodge, Nr Stockbridge, SO20 6LQ
All day self drive including lunch
Members: £45 • Guests: £50
Finally, for our third garden visit, we have been invited to spend the day at Houghton Lodge, the home of Sophie Busk who we are delighted to say is a Life Member of HGT.
To make our visit special, as the garden is routinely open to the public, we have arranged for refreshments on arrival followed by a guided tour of Houghton Lodge itself. After a prebooked lunch, Sophie will then give us an introductory talk about the garden after which we are free to wander at will. The garden has a famous walled kitchen garden, champion trees, riverside views and lots of interesting planting.
