Jenny Hill Zoom Lecture – Petersfield Physic Garden – Monday 15th February, starting at 6pm, e-ticket £5

Jenny Hill is the Garden Manager of the Petersfield Physic Garden and has been a volunteer working in the garden for the past 15 years.

The Petersfield Physic Garden is a private garden open to the public whose design is based on that of a 17th century Physic Garden. It was set up some thirty years ago in one of few remaining burgage plots from medieval times in Petersfield.

The plot of land was donated to the people of Petersfield by Major John Bowen who wished to provide a green oasis in the centre of the town and an area in which unusual plants could be grown and protected. It was developed with ideas from the then director of the Chelsea Physic Garden and the first chairman of the Hampshire Gardens trust and forms one of the three historical gardens in Hampshire.

It demonstrates the fundamental sources of medicines used by the people of the 17th century in combating illnesses from coughs and colds to the Great Plague.
